Our first annual conference is complete and we are so excited with it's success. We had a total of 108 attendees, 11 breakout sessions, and an inspiring opening session as well as an insightful closing presentation. Many participants spoke of how interesting it was to learn about the history of child life in Texas during the opening session. Kat Davitt was a knowledgeable tour guide, taking everyone on a wonderful "road trip" where she pointed out many different child life land marks.
The breakout sessions explored a multitude of child life topics, from preparation and treatment support to bereavement services, and even educational curriculum for the healthcare team. Students were able to attend two different sessions tailored specifically to their needs in pursuing the child life profession. During lunch participants got a peak at the information coming in from the ACLP data collection initiative in addition to networking with colleagues.
Sandra Lopez closed out the educational sessions by having a down-to-earth conversation about professional boundaries and recognizing burnout, giving many good pieces of advice to help everyone in our demanding career as child life specialists. At the end of the day TACLP was excited to introduce the new 2017-2019 board as well as thank the original board for all their hard work laying the ground work for this wonderful association.
